BIBÓ ISTVÁN SZAKKOLLÉGIUM

A Gellért-hegyi ház sorozatos, és drasztikus átépítések története.

A hányatatott sorsú épületet eredetileg Rigner Sándor tervezte 1910-ben, maga és neje számára nyaralónak. 1926-ban Horváth Lajos építőmester tervei alapján a kisléptékű villát átalakították, és a déli hátsókert felé bővítették a Szent Margit Intézet megbízásából. Az épületen az utolsó átalakítást Bálint Gusztáv 1981-ben tervezte már az ELTE számára. Ekkorra az épület eredeti, tagolt tetőszerkezete megsemmisült, az átalakítás során a már meglévő nyeregtetős padlásteret hosszabbították meg és építették be, az eredeti állapotra még nyomokban emlékeztető véghomlokzatokat leegyszerűsítették.

Az elmúlt évtizedekben az épület állapota az intenzív használat és a spontán toldások során tovább romlott, így az Egyetem a kollégiumának felújítását határozta el. Az átépítés során az épület az utca felé egy közlekedő- és közösségi szárnnyal, valamint a telek déli, hátsó részén lévő sportpálya közelében egy föld alá süllyesztett tornateremmel bővült, amellett, hogy új kollégiumi szobák, egy könyvtár, valamint konferenciatérrel kiegészített klub-, és közösségi terek jöttek létre az egyetemi szakkollégisták számára.

The building, located on Gellérthegy, has been the subject of serial and drastic remodeling.

It was originally designed by Sándor Ringer in 1910 as a vacation home for him and his wife. In 1926, the small scale villa was remodeled according to the designs of master builder Lajos Horváth, and expanded toward the southern backyard as commissioned by Saint Margaret Institute. The last alteration was designed by Gusztáv Bálint for ELTE in 1981. By then, the original articulated roof structure had been demolished. Within the remodeling process, the existing gable attic space was extended and utilized, the end façades were simplified, leaving no trace of the original architecture.

Over the course of the past decades, the building further deteriorated due to intensive use and spontaneous additions, therefore the University commissioned the renovation of its dormitory. The remodeling process resulted in a circulation core and community annex toward the street, and an underground gymnasium at the southern end of the site, near the sports field. In addition, students received new dorm rooms, a library and a conference area complemented by club and community spaces.
